MRA and Mississippi Department of Education to Implement Pro-Start
(from the Mississippi Restaurant Association)

After months of planning, the Mississippi Restaurant Association and the Mississippi
Department of Education will be piloting the ProStart training program in 5 high
schools in Mississippi.

ProStart is a two-year high school curriculum that is taught through the vocational
education department. It consists of both classroom training and on the job mentoring
by recognized foodservice professionals. Upon completion of the two year program,
students that have met the strict academic requirements and worksite skills training, will
receive a nationally recognized certificate that will enable them to enter into the
workforce at an advanced level or enter into the post-secondary education arena
through numerous articulation agreements.

The partnership between industry and education will further improve the learning
experiences of today's students and tomorrow's employees. Endorsed by Governor
Musgrove, ProStart will provide the professional training our workforce needs.
